Humanitarian Action
Protection and assistance where they are needed most
A major focus of the book is the humanitarian work undertaken by the United Nations and its partners in some of the world’s most challenging environments — Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Pakistan and Ethiopia among them.
Guided by the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence, humanitarian action extends far beyond the delivery of emergency relief. It encompasses the protection of refugees and the internally displaced, the reunification of families, the education of displaced children, and the defence of fundamental human rights — often the difference between survival and catastrophe.
